The Budget

Conceptual Costs

$11,700,000: includes construction costs, demolition of existing book stack area, building system upgrades to existing library, design fees, furniture, parking lot and landscaping.

State Grants

$5,080,350: Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) Public Library Construction Grant

Plus a Green Initiative Grant of $101,000 to $177,000 in additional state funds (depending on what level LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is attained) that will become available after construction is completed.

Total Cost to the Town

$6,700,000: This cost will be offset by fundraising and donations.

Total Cost per Household

The town’s share of the $6,700,000 breaks down to an annual average of $79 (based on average home value of $329,000.) or 24 cents per thousand of the assessed value of a house. The tax rate after year #1 goes down every year after that as other town debt retires!  See graph.
